halloween costumes
Halloween can be a fun holiday for kids to express their imaginative side. As a mom we enjoy finding the exact costume for our children and then experiencing the joy in “trick or treat” door to door. Sometimes it can be difficult to find a costume for the little ones. There is a line that I have adored for infants that I want to share with you called Mullin Square. Here are a few of my favorites and ones you can find online. http://www.mullinssquare.com
what to wear for your family portrait
When your family is having portraits takin you always want to wear coordinating outfits.
Try to pick outfits in the same color family (light blue and dark blue, etc.) or in two colors (girls in pink shirts, boys in brown).
Bold colors are fine as are earth tones. Try to stick to solids or simple patterns. Don’t be afraid of color!
Cowboy hats and boots are great!

overwhelmed by ordering pictures?
I have had a lot of my clients tell me they were really overwhelmed when trying to order their pictures. I found this blog post today and thought it was really helpful and informative. It was written by a photographer in Rhode Island but applies especially to us Texans since everything is bigger in Texas! ha ha

If it doesn’t work, copy and paste it in your browser if you are even thinking about ordering pictures.
snowstorm shoot
I have never taken pictures in a snowstorm before. Our model was very brave. She was half frozen by the time we finished.
bonafide!
I have been doing photography for about 4 or 5 years. It has been a long road of trying new things and learning (often the hard way). By no means do I think I know everything there is to know…but I have reached a place where I feel confident in what I am doing and that I can deliver a great product for a competitive price! (Yay me!)
Lately I have gotten some cool stuff to work with. I thought it might be interesting to see “where the magic happens” so to speak and some of the tools I use on a daily basis.
This is my appointment book. It was a gift from my Dad last Christmas and I have used it ten times a day every since then. It ROCKS. It is Jon Hart (available at The Carriage my favorite store). It is something I can NOT live without.
This is my Shootsac by Jessica Claire. The Shootsac is a lensbag that you wear on your body while you are shooting to keep you lenses close at hand. I have sort of an “issue” with leaving my stuff all over the place. I have left my flash, lost numerous lens caps, and a couple of cell phones. I get so excited taking pictures and running around like a lunatic that I leave stuff, EVERYWHERE. The shootsac helps a lot. There is room for my lenses and also space for keys, phones, business cards etc. It is cool. My husband had my logo put on the cover but there are also designer covers available. Check it out at www.shootsac.com
This is a peek in my office. I have two computers, a printer, four thousand sticky notes everywhere, and of course lots of pictures of my kids. I also have a framed copy of my first cover for San Angelo Family Magazine. My newest addition is the cool logo canvas hanging over my desk! I love this. When I stumble in every morning in my pj’s, diet coke in hand I smile when I see it.
Lastly, and I just got these today, are my super cool LaRae Russell Photography hoodies! I am pretty much a comfort girl. Mostly, I wear jeans, Converse (in Winter) and Birkenstocks (in summer). Lately I have been freezing my tail off on photoshoots so these are going to be great! I can move in them and they will keep me warm and cozy. A warm and cozy photographer is a happy photographer! My hair is not as red as it looks in this picture, not sure what is up with that!!
So, there you have it….No super fancy studio filled with million dollar equipment. Just me and some of the stuff I use everyday to do the job that I love.
